ZULUM at NYSC event

Babagana Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, paid a visit to the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp in Maiduguri on a recent Saturday. This visit marked the reopening of the camp after a hiatus of 13 years. During his presence there, Governor Zulum made a significant announcement. He generously donated a sum of N36.4 million to serve as palliative support for the 1,215 youth corps members who were stationed in the state for their national service.

As a gesture of care and goodwill, Governor Zulum took further steps to ensure the well-being of the corps members. He personally allocated a supply of essentials to enhance their experience during the ongoing three-week orientation period. Among these provisions were 100 bags of rice, 10 cows, 10 bags of 100 kg of beans, and 10 gallons of cooking oil. These items were designated for a special meal to be prepared exclusively for the corps members, thereby making their stay more comfortable.

Addressing the assembled youth corps members, Governor Zulum expressed his commitment to their welfare. He emphasized that each member would receive a sum of N30,000, which would be promptly credited to their bank accounts upon providing the necessary bank details. Beyond the monetary support, he ensured that tangible essentials were provided, including the aforementioned bags of rice, beans, cooking oil, and bulls.

Governor Zulum encouraged the corps members to adhere to the rules and regulations of the camp, fostering an atmosphere of peaceful coexistence. He urged them to engage in activities that promote harmony and contribute positively to the nation's stability. Stressing the importance of loyalty and dedication to authorities, he encouraged the corps members to forge connections within the local community, thereby collectively working towards a prosperous Nigeria characterized by sustainable economic growth and development.

Expressing gratitude, Governor Zulum extended his appreciation to the Federal Government for their efforts in enhancing security in Borno State. This improvement paved the way for the reinstatement of the NYSC orientation camp in Maiduguri. For a significant period, due to the insurgent activities, the Federal Government had suspended the hosting of the NYSC orientation camp in Maiduguri. As an alternative, batches of corps members were directed to undertake their initial orientation activities in Bauchi and Katsina States before proceeding to Borno State for their primary assignments.
