Minister Art's, Culture & Creative Economy

Hannatu Musawa, the Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, is firmly defending her recent appointment, insisting that it doesn't violate any of the country's laws despite claims to the contrary. She was inaugurated as a minister just last week, with some Nigerians raising concerns about her appointment due to her concurrent participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), a mandatory one-year program for Nigerian graduates under 30 years of age.

In a personal statement released on Sunday, Hannatu Musawa argued that her appointment is well within the bounds of the law. She addressed the misunderstandings that have surfaced in the media and on social platforms, emphasizing that there is no law in Nigeria's Constitution or the NYSC Act that prohibits a serving corps member from being appointed to political positions by the President or any other appointing authority. She further clarified that neither the existing laws nor the NYSC Act necessitates completing the service before assuming a political office. According to her, there are no legal or constitutional impediments to her appointment, and she has not violated any Nigerian law.

She cited a specific legal case from 2021, where Justice Taiwo Taiwo of the Federal High Court Abuja ruled that the Nigerian Constitution does not require individuals to present a first-degree certificate or any other certificate, including the NYSC certificate, to be appointed as a Minister in Nigeria.

Hannatu Musawa emphasized her commitment to serving her country and fulfilling her national duty. She explained that she had initiated her participation in the current NYSC program as a personal commitment and sense of duty, even though she hadn't been able to complete it after her initial mobilization in 2001 due to family responsibilities. Hannatu Musawa applied to NYSC again last year and was deployed to serve in Abuja, where she has been for the past 8 months before her ministerial appointment.

She affirmed that her current NYSC status, which will conclude in another 4 months, will not hinder her responsibilities as the Minister of Art, Culture, and Creative Economy. Hannatu Musawa sees her role as a higher calling to national service and reiterates her loyalty to Nigeria and her determination to serve the country diligently.

In conclusion, she expressed her unwavering commitment to delivering on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's Renewed Hope Agenda for a better, more prosperous Nigeria. The statement not only defends her position but also reaffirms her dedication to her role as a minister and her continued service to the nation.
