300M bulletproof Car |
Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has strongly refuted a social media report claiming that he purchased a N300 Million Armoured Lexus LX600 shortly after being sworn in by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. After viral photos depicted Wike arriving at the FCT Administration office in an armored SUV labeled ‘FCT-01’, he challenged journalists to inspect the vehicle and verify its specifications.
During a tour of the Abuja Light Rail, Wike addressed the issue, stating, "I have seen what is going on in social media, how you (FCTA Permanent Secretary) bought a bulletproof car of N300 Million Naira that I am using. So I want you people to go hit your hand there (on the car) and see whether it is a treated car."
He emphasized that he had not authorized the purchase of a bulletproof car and was not using one as the FCT Minister. Wike urged accurate reporting and urged journalists to verify facts before spreading damaging information.
Several journalists took up the challenge and confirmed that the vehicle was indeed not bulletproof.
During the tour of the light rail, Wike urged the contractors, Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC), to expedite the restoration of the vandalized portion of the project within eight months instead of the initial one-year timeline. He emphasized his determination to quickly deliver projects to make the presence of the government felt by Abuja residents.
Wike acknowledged that the Metro Station – Airport route might not be very viable, but he expressed plans to focus on commercially viable routes connecting areas such as Nyanya and Kubwa to the city center in the future. He also questioned why the perimeter fence of the metro station had not been completed, highlighting the need for basic security measures to be in place to prevent vandalism.
