Gunmen has abducted 8 NYSC participants on there way to camp in Sokoto, causing a tense situation in Nigeria.

Suspected bandits have abducted eight members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Zamfara State, Nigeria's North-west region. The abduction occurred on August 19, 2023, while they were traveling from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, to Sokoto State. The victims were inside an AKTC bus when it was intercepted along a highway in Zamfara.

 

A source from the transport company revealed the incident on August 21, 2023, stating that the group of corps members numbered 11, but three managed to escape the gunmen. The driver of the bus was also taken captive.

According to the source, "The corps members were offloaded (from the bus) and taken into the bush. The police have recovered the bus."

The victims had left Uyo on Friday and stayed overnight in Abuja before continuing their journey to Sokoto, where the abduction took place.

The incident has been reported to government authorities and security agencies. Additionally, a Facebook user named Malachy Blessed shared information about one of the abducted corps members, Emmanuel Esudue, a graduate of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering from Akwa Ibom State University. His phone has been unreachable since Thursday.
